Information about the Host
The Modern Desi is a boutique consultancy and cooking business, operating in Sydney, Australia since 2019. The business initially known as ‘Just a Girl from Aamchi Mumbai’ was a passion project of our co-founder Bhavna Kalra, who missed the home of her motherland India after moving to Australia 12 years ago.
This homesickness eventually, lead to a food blog, that grew over the years into not just a space to document recipes but also an online journal where she started to share her passion for storytelling, which crossed countries and boundaries with an engagement of over 39k followers on her Instagram handle ‘The Modern Desi Co’.
After many years of writing & cooking, Bhavna along with her husband formally started The Modern Desi to break stereotypes around Indian cuisine and how it was showcased in Australia.
