Overview

The Modern Desi is a boutique consultancy and cooking business,
operating in Sydney, Australia since 2019.  

With the Modern Desi we aim to: 

Share the delicious fusion of Indian dishes made with fresh and local
Australian ingredients; 

Recite the stories and history of our foods to increase appreciation for
local, freshly made, diverse ingredients and dishes; 

Increase people’s knowledge of cooking, preparing, growing various fresh
and local ingredients to create a more sustainable approach to food. 

More importantly have fun and enjoy the experience of cooking with
friends/family or colleagues  

Class duration 1.5 hours, held over zoom  

Menu

- 3 course meal (South Indian, North Indian, East Indian, Mix) 

- Menu can be customised and tailored to suit your needs 

- We cater to food intolerances, including gluten & lactose
issues 

- Menu could be completely Vegan/Vegetarian with 1 meat/Seafood
dish for non-vegetarians 

Pricing

Option 1 - $160 pp Class with 1 box of Dry ingredient delivered
and participants to purchase the wet ingredients before the class. 

Option 2 - $95 pp Class only, guests to buy their own ingredients
as per the checklist provided  

All classes get step by step checklist & printed recipes of
all dishes that we will cook including tips and tricks 

-Free subscription to more recipes online

Information about the Host

The Modern Desi is a boutique consultancy and cooking business,
operating in Sydney, Australia since 2019. The business initially known as
‘Just a Girl from Aamchi Mumbai’ was a passion project of our co-founder Bhavna
Kalra, who missed the home of her motherland India after moving to Australia 12
years ago. 

This homesickness eventually, lead to a food blog, that grew over
the years into not just a space to document recipes but also an online journal
where she started to share her passion for storytelling, which crossed
countries and boundaries with an engagement of over 39k followers on her
Instagram handle ‘The Modern Desi Co’. 

After many years of writing & cooking, Bhavna along with her
husband formally started The Modern Desi to break stereotypes around Indian
cuisine and how it was showcased in Australia.
